Ekphrastic 12/The Fifth Element

With a name like Belladonna you would know
the world’s fate fortunes like radio waves
from venemous molars
you would have phoenix tears

and end in suicide
then begin like the tender foam flowers of oceanspray in the mouth
like a mother feeding her child
and you are the child and she the tooth-ferrier’s catch

a rogue
has more oceans in his liver
than the knight in bleached armour
words written by fingers in the air he’d worry
about the bloodstains

cyclic
like vampiric-zombie-children
you will be his womb
because he is a river
but you, water

[Ekphrasis is art in reaction to art. Basically. And I don’t think about the art I consume enough. And I haven’t been writing poetry as much as I should. So every Friday, I’ll post an ekphrastic poem about whatever art I’ve been eating lately (books, poetry, anime, paintings, films, so on).]
