Ekphrastic 11/Jessica Naomi

there are universes and then
there are graves
and there
bodies on slabs made of stars
just rooms wallless
just shadowboxes without
the makings of darkness but
butterfly wings slivered on mandolins
thin enough
they are windows

Jessica Naomi is one of those human creatures that spins.  Death, pastels, forest couture, mycelia.  There’s a beautiful gloaming in her work.  When I bought her old camera, I also asked permission to post the ekphrastic poem I’d written driven by her aesthetic, accompanied by some of her photos.  Here.

[Ekphrasis is art in reaction to art. Basically. And I don’t think about the art I consume enough. And I haven’t been writing poetry as much as I should. So every Friday, I’ll post an ekphrastic poem about whatever art I’ve been eating lately (books, poetry, anime, paintings, films, so on).]
