10 (or so) things you didn’t know about Karelian Finland

“An old, wise Karelian shaman told us that these mushrooms here were very good for warding off, uh, Finnish pubic crabs…”

At the end of my backpacking trip through the Baltics, in Joensuu, Finland, I went to brush my teeth–only to return to the tent to find that my partner-in-crime had stolen my iPod to make a series of short, absurd documentaries about Karelia (the eastern region of Finland we were in).

Devilish.  Crazed.  Hilarious. (And completely made-up on the spot.)

If you want to read more about our trip, here’s the archive (Lands of Bog, Lake and Troll: day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6).  I’ve posted the first six or seven days and hope to finish up the remaining twenty-three sometime in the near future.
